Avish has been in Philadelphia since 1991 when he enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania. Although Avish graduated with a degree in Computer Science, he embraced his artistic nature by starting Polywumpus Improv Comedy.
Polywumpus performed in and around Philadelphia for seven years until October of 2002. After Polywumpus closed its doors, Avish and four other Polywumpus members created Citizen Wumpus.
Avish wears different hats with Citizen Wumpus, playing the role of director, producer, writer, actor, editor, andpretty much anything else that needs to happen to get the job done.
Although filmmaking is the exact opposite of improv comedy, Avish feels that Citizen Wumpus's roots will be of benefit.
In his own words:
One thing we always focused on was telling interesting stories, improv performance is the ultimate exercise in trying to maintain an audience's attention. The skills we developed to do that in Polywumpus will carry over to our films.
