Michael Worth
Be as simple as possible, but not any simpler.
Although a New Englander by birth, Mike has been a resident of Philadelphia since he attended the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. Mike was one of the original co-founders of Polywumpus, serving as both a performer and the musical accompanist. It was here that Mike developed a foundation both as an actor, and as a composer. After a brief stint at Duke University to formally study music composition, Michael determined that his musical future lay not in the concert hall, but in scoring movies. Michael moved back up to Philadelphia to form Citizen Wumpus with his friends, the former members of Polywumpus.
Like the other members of Citizen Wumpus, Mike has a wide set of skills that he brings to the group to help with the construction of a film. Mike assists in developing the story structure and script of Citizen Wumpus' films, and can don the actor's hat when needed; however, his two primary roles are that of musical composer and sound technician.
Mike's compositional style creates parallels between his musical structures and the script's narrative structure. Like the other members of Citizen Wumpus, Mike places a priority on crafting a piece that will capture an audience and resonate with them emotionally.
In his own words:
I can remember the first time I played the Love Theme that I had written for But What If You Could? I was tracking a scene on Terry's computer, and at the appropriate dramatic moment, softly played the theme. Everyone in the room, including Terry's girlfriend, let out an audible sigh of romantic contentment. Boy, is that a rush for a composer! I knew at that moment how powerful a film score could be, when coupled with a strong story and solid cinematic craft. I also knew that there is nothing in the world that I would rather do than work in films, composing music.
